So on my last post, I mentioned my ambitions for the coming year and that I’d cover how I was going to do each one. I also mentioned a book I had been reading (for about the last 6 months on and off) and said I would tell you more about it.
Well, the book I am listening to is called ‘The Four Pillar Plan: How to Relax, Eat, Move and Sleep your way to a longer, healthier life’ by Dr Rangan Chatterjee:
This book is helping me with No’s 3, 4, 5 & 6 of my ambitions and I can’t wait to tell you how. At first, I thought ‘this is too easy’ and went merrily on my way, listening here and there, still continuing to do what I wanted to do and taking no notice at all – or so I thought!
Then I realised that I was putting a few things in place without even thinking about it (upping my water intake, parking further away at the supermarket to up my steps). I was listening to some of the book more intently, those areas that sounded like the kind of things I was suffering from and thinking, hey, if it worked for them – too late to stop myself, I realised I was hooked.
Now what you need to know about me is, if there is something going round that looks too good to be true, I’m probably doing it!I get caught up in the hype and off I go, full steam ahead – but with nothing stoking the boiler, the steam soon runs out and then I’m off again in another direction on another wild goosechase.
I say this because I want you to know what I’m like, but also that this time I haven’t run out of steam – I’m still going and (fanfare!!!) It seems to be working!
This plan IS really simple – cut out the crap, move, work on some areas and issues and you can make improvements to your life and health. The ideas are really well laid out and, because it is from a doctor, the ‘science’ part makes sense too (plus he’s really easy to listen to which helps).
So what is it all about?
Dr Chatterjee gives you plans and ideas on four ‘pillars’ that help make up a stable body – Relaxing, Eating, Moving and Sleeping. He breaks down each pillar into 5 easy-to-manage areas and then further breaks down each area with a simple plan to help you work on it. The four pillars and their areas are:
So there you have it. Tomorrow I will post about how I am relaxing more (this is very important, you have to love yourself before you can love others as my Mum used to say and this is all about self-love and how not to feel guilty about it).
So until tomorrow, have a great evening,
