Hi guys, just wanted to pop on quickly and wish you all a wonderful 2019.
Wow, what a year 2018 was – lots of changes for me and some areas I would like to forget, as well as some I am very proud of – how about you? What will you miss and what will you be glad to shut the door on from 2018?
Isn’t it strange, nothing has changed from yesterday, yet we seem to be able to ‘wipe the slate clean’ and start again on January 1st, something we all struggle with at other times of the year. We should remember this at times when we are down, say June/July, September/October – the new ‘year’ can start whenever we want, we just need to put a line under what we’ve done and start again. I hope you are able to do that.
Still, I’m like everyone else and wanted to take the time that I’ve had off over the Christmas period to think about what I want to achieve myself and what I need to change to achieve those goals. There is no point wanting something and not changing how you are going about it, remember:
“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.”~ Albert Einstein
As an old friend used to say to me, “Old Ways Won’t Open New Doors!” so we need to look at why those ways don’t work and what we can do new to improve our results.
So based on this, I have made a list of 7 ambitions that I want to improve and achieve over the next year:
Get out of Debt! This is still massively high on my list. It restricts things that I want to do and makes us feel bad about what we are doing if we spend anything at all. So Dave Ramsey, I am still following your baby steps.
Finish our Home! I think I’ve mentioned that we are working on our home and carrying out renovations so that we can sell up and get into property as a retirement plan – well, having a bathroom with no shower OR sink won’t help that goal, so we need to finish off these projects and get this house done!
Move More and Get Fit! I get out of breath just climbing the stairs and this restricts so much of what I do, including singing, which I love to do, but shortness of breath means I can’t hold a note anymore. I am making a lot of changes here, watch this space.
Eat Healthy! But what does this mean? I have already made ways into this by cutting out takeaways (well, getting there) and having a meal each evening, but after reading a book (that I will come to in my next post), I need to actually look more into what I am putting into my body just a little more.
Sleep better! I do not sleep well. This is a fact, but again, I have found that there are reasons for this. Tiredness makes other areas of my life worse. I am tired, so I don’t cook, I eat out, I put on weight, I become more lethargic, I don’t move, I watch more TV, my mind won’t switch off, so I don’t sleep, then, yes you’ve guessed it, I’m tired! I am looking into this and things are already changing, more on this later.
Relax More! I do not switch off, I get laughed at by my family as I can’t sit and watch a film, I’m up, doing things (I was tiling the bathroom on boxing day!). But this is not good for me, it’s akin to being in ‘Fight or Flight’ mode, my body on constant alertness, adrenalin running, waiting for the next thing to happen – do you do this? Well, if you do, you should look at ways to relax more as this is unhealthy and could kill you!
Write REGULARLY on this Blog! Yes, I haven’t forgotten this, it has been so therapeutic writing on here and I am loving it but I want to be more regular and plan for it more.
I began this Blog thinking what on earth will I write about? Who will want to read my musings? Well, I found out I don’t care who reads it. If it helps one person, I’m pleased, but this is currently for me, to get my thoughts out and to put plans in action and have accountability.
So, I hope my ambitions for the new year have given you some ideas. As I said, I will delve into each one as I go and give you my ideas and insights, which I hope you will find useful.
So until next time, take care and have a WONDERFUL New Year, may it bring you all you wish for.
